Strategic migration to LORIOT's LoRaWAN® Network Server enables continued growth in Utopi’s ESG data infrastructure
LORIOT AG, leading provider of LoRaWAN® Network Server solutions and IoT services, today announced that Utopi, an award winning provider of ESG data solutions for the built environment, has successfully migrated its extensive network of over 105,000 devices and more than 1,000 gateways to LORIOT's platform. The strategic migration, completed in late 2024, has enabled Utopi to significantly expand its operations while maintaining the reliability required for its live services.
The partnership emerged as Utopi sought to evolve its network infrastructure strategy, evaluating next-generation platforms for their substantial IoT operations. After a comprehensive assessment of factors including scale, reliability, experience in the market, wide-ranging support of gateway manufacturers, a richness of options for outputs, and closeness and competence of technical support, choosing it over other options, including potentially building a self-supported open source solution.
"The Loriot LNS is a key strategic platform for Utopi, supporting our business with a foundational service," said Falk Bleyl, Co-Founder and CTO of Utopi, "Our experience with Loriot has been positive throughout. Today, the number of gateways and end devices has increased significantly since the migration and the platform reliably handles over 10,000 messages per minute."
The migration of Utopi's live service, with its extensive network of well over 1,000 gateways and over 105,000 end devices, represented a significant technical undertaking where risk mitigation was paramount. LORIOT's proven track record in large-scale migrations and comprehensive gateway manufacturer support were crucial factors in the selection process.
As the IoT market grows, platform migrations have become increasingly common and complex. Organizations with established networks face the challenge of transitioning live services without disrupting operations, while simultaneously planning for future growth.
During Utopi's migration, LORIOT’s platform was quickly adjusted to accommodate the real demands, showcasing how successful migrations require not just technical capability but also the flexibility to adapt as true operational patterns emerge. This responsiveness reflects LORIOT's understanding that IoT deployments are dynamic, growing entities that require platforms capable of scaling alongside their users' ambitions.
"Utopi's migration showcases exactly what LORIOT was built for – supporting enterprise-scale IoT deployments that demand absolute reliability," said Alan Rae, Chief Sales Officer at LORIOT, "When they came to us with over 100,000 devices requiring migration from a discontinued platform, we saw an opportunity to demonstrate our platform's capabilities and our team's expertise. The fact that they've continued to grow significantly since the migration validates their trust in our team and solution."
The successful partnership has enabled Utopi to maintain its established operations and accelerate growth, with device and gateway numbers increasing significantly since the migration, while maintaining reliable performance at scale.
